Calibre Justice
By now, you all know that hip hop group, fratpack, recently dropped a newish offering called frwednesday Mixtape. If you don't and you're keen on hearing it then download it HERE. Now, back to today's post. It brings The Ordinary Girl great pleasure to give you a first look at the Calibre Justice video. Over a Justice beat, Mr Calibre goes in about his vices (Coca Cola) and his pet-peeves (pretty boys rappers, teehee) and more. The joint is taken off frwednesday Mixtape and the video was shot a hop and skip away from where Mr Calibre and his crew hang out and skate on Funisu boards by me.
As someone who has known the brothers, me and Mr Calibre, since the days when the latter used to insist people say his whole alias (Mr Mr Calibre The Boy With Infinite Skill), I must say it's been quite something to watch him grow and come into his own like this. And as a rap fan, I'd have to say it's even nicer to hear him spitting about, amongst other things, not caring whether you know any of the names he mentions in the verse. The point is, you don't have to worry about that - you'll know in due time and inspite of your resistance. The visuals are brought to life by the producing and rapping half of fratpack, me. No, Dude, I'm not getting you a director's chair just yet. Doesn't it look like it was fun at this sausage party? I'm kidding, I'm kidding, fratpack loves the ladies. What's The 511
A while ago, we got an invite from the good folks at Shelflife to attend a low-key preview of The 511 Skateboarding Collection at the Baseline store in Cape Town. Just a little aside about theblagg's relationship with Baseline: Dude was in Cape Town a year ago and almost lost his mind because he finally found (and bought on the spot) the tan Janoskis over at Baseline store on Long Street so the store has a special spot in his heart. Ncaaaw.
Ok, what was I busy telling you again?
So yeah, for those who aren't aware, Nike SB and Levi's came together to collaborate on the 511 collection which is inspired by and geared towards lovers of skateboarding. The Levi's 511 skinny denim makes a comeback here and actually feels really light to the touch and features Nike's Dri-Fit moisture management system. Great for skaters but I reckon anyone could rock the slim-fit just because they don't feel like they wear you down. But I digress.
I'm not a fan of the trucker skateboarding denim jackets that are a part of the collection but if the Levi's x Nike Omar Salazar sneakers were a dude, they could totally get it. The Nike Dunk Low Pros round out the package and retail prices in America seem to be high as usual but when I asked the folks at Baseline about their prices they said they weren't sure because prices hadn't been set yet. This collection is a very limited release in South Africa so you might want to pay Baseline a quick visit. Don't forget your wallet.

We Don't Do Straps But...

I think I could definately mess with these. Yes, yes, yes wise blaggers and blaggettes, these Chocolate x Devine Calloway mids are lank old. But 2008 is not that far back for me to whip these out, is it? And the dope thing about these, aside from the comfy interior (a skaters dream), is the removable ankle strap. No velcro was killed during the making of these kicks because the strap has snap-ons so you can adjust the grip without fabric and dirt stucking to it. Dope, right?
When I had a desk job I used to sit at my 9to5 thinking of rad lines and drooling over sneakers I liked. We never did get the sticky saliva out of the crevices of the keyboard but that's a story for another day. Anyway, behind me, in our little silos, sat a woman who has short biscuit brown hair and a love for flat shoes. Her husband was (maybe he still is, I don't know) a big wig at Etnies and she was the sample size.
If you have been reading theblagg for a bit you will know that I am far from sample size. So the more casual our corporate environment got, the greener I went. Biscuit babe soon moved to Cape Town and I left the company too but I'll never forget feeling like I had to own a pair of Etnies some day. Girl's shoes are problematic for me (another thing you know if you're a blagger or blaggette) so I never saw a pair I would give up Milky Bars for. Until now.
This chocolate will do me just fine. Wait. Nevermind. Those in the know tell me this is a collabo between Chocolate Skateboards and Etnies. Skater, Devine Calloway, left DC shoes to endorse Etnies five years after he'd joined Chocolate. And this was the result of these partnerships. Enough of the history lesson. I really like these mids, what do you guys think?

We Love Wandile
Yep, that would be the guy with an unrivaled passion for skateboarding and comfortable sneakers. That would be the dude who decided to get up, get out and get something for himself and other kids - yes, the black people as well as the white kick-pushers. That would be the dude who is making power moves, ever so subtly though, with headphone powerhouse and skate culture mavericks, Skullcandy. That would be the kid who had dreams of making his own boards - and he did it (but more on that in the next entry). That would be Wandile Msomi to you.
He chops it up with theblagg and breaks down who he is and how he got to where he is today. Plus he and Skullcandy are giving away a pair of super dope headphones. So watch the interview, listen out for the competition and enter! Don't say theblagg never puts you on. Yes, StreetBoss, that means you too!
