All the cool things happen in Joburg. Sigh. The Converse Halloween Block Party will be shutting down Town Hall in Jozi on October 28 from 9pm. There will be four stages featuring the likes of Mr Sakitumi (do NOT miss this) as well as Sibot, DJ Kenzhero, Desmond and The Tutus as well as a French DJ duo called Stereo Heroes. And if the X-Factor bug has bit you too, what you’re thinking of is probably the Stereo Hogz. Or if MTV is getting on your last nerve with that Gym Class Heroes song, Stereo Hearts, we understand too. However, all that has nothing to do with the Stereo Heroes. These guys are completely different. Anyway, the adidas minibus is cute, the Puma one is fuctional but the 18-wheeler Converse Truck (which has been travelling around campuses) has all sorts of awesomery in it. Check it out:
Thats the Converse we all know and love!! Ronnie Fieg collabed with Converse to bring the "Converse Star Player 75 Deluxe Pack". Unfortunately for us, only 300 units were said to be made so I doubt we will be getting them in South Africa. Peep the kicks and tell us what you think.
We have said some much about our frustrations with Converse South Africa and we have already confessed our love for Converse so all we can say now is: Here is the new Converse Skateboarding KA-ONE sneaker. Tell us what you think
I can't stress how many times I have mentioned that Converse South Africa is sleeping ( Optimistic rebels is cool but come on ya'll!!! ) and here is more proof. You have probably heard about Red Bull Studios in Cape Town where people like Ill Skillz and Ben Sharpa record music? Well Converse is building a studio in Brooklyn New York where artists will be able to record for free 99!!! They say the studio, called Converse Rubber Tracks Studio, will be opening in early 2011 and they put out this video.
WHAAAAAAAAAATT???? You know by now that Dude loves him some Converse ( even though they had a party in Johannesburg and didn't invite theblagg?? Who does that?? ), but I would dig these grey with white vulcanised sole even if they weren't CONS!! Peep them.
From what theblagg can figure out, one of our favourite culture brands Converse has not gone completely bananas. Yes we know skkkrippers need love too but Chuck Taylors on clear heels?
Get outta here!
Everyone's favourite singing tranny with thighs that rival Shaka Zulu's is the one rocking this insane version of Chucks. Necole Bitchie tells us CiCi was wearing these on the set of her new video for a song called Gimme Dat.
Tjoweee.
If Converse designers are reading this please take note: WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO CREATE SOMETHING LIKE THIS. EVER.
This post may expose Dude for being a bit of a nerd but so be it. One of dudes favourite designers Jeff Staple ( who is responsible for the Pigeon Collaborations pictured below ) has a series of webisodes where he interviews people that he thinks are inspiring called "jeffstaple 1-2-1". In the fifth instalment he interviews 13thWitness.
Nike SB Pigeon Dunk Low Pro
New Balance 575 Converse Seastar
13thWitness is a photographer/filmer who I got familiar with via the Maestro Knows webisodes and his photography is crazy!!! He has also become one of Dudes favourite photographers. Peep some of his pics below. Now that you know why Dude digs them, here is the video. Peep!!
Nike doing big things by combining its three brands ( Nike, Jordan and Converse ) to make one hybrid shoe for Nike's World Basketball Festival. Peep the video below.
Dude is really feeling Converse right now, ( Maybe not South African Converse because I feel like they are even trying to cater to a Converse lover like me. They are still surviving on the classic Chuck Taylor All Star and Jack Purcell, other than that...theres nothing. WAKE UP CONVERSE SOUTH AFRICA!!! ) and when they keep dropping joints like the The Jack Purcell Racearound High in smooth red leather... It just... makes me...smile. Peep the sneaker below.
I didn't think that a Red Leather Chucks with a blue toecap would be appealling to me but YO!! I love them. Cody Hudson x Converse (RED) Chuck Tayor All Star High collaboration is very dope. Peep the pics and tell us what you think.
One half of one of Dudes favourite Hip Hop group Outkast has collaborated with Converse on a sneaker. You probably hoping I would say Andre huh?...Yeah? Me too. Big Boi(the other guy from Outkast) collaborated with Converse and we are glad he did not mess up our beloved Chuck Taylors. Peep as he explains the collab.
If you have known Dude for a while then you know how I used to get down on the basketball court (Ask about me!!). Unfortunately Dude has become too rusty to put a challenge to anyone, but back then ANYBODY COULD GET IT!! Ahem... I digress. We came across a new video of another, more well-known has-been baller, God Shammgod (yes that is his birth given name, HOW DOPE IS THAT?!?!?!). The is the dude who is said to have taught Kobe Bryant the crossover and we all know how killer Kobe's crossover can be, right?
Shammgod played in the NBA for one season and since then he has been playing ball in China, Saudi Arabia and Poland leagues which are not as high profile as the NBA. In this video, he teams up with Converse to tell us about growing up and honing his dribbling skills. He also breaks down his signature move for us.
In a time when every other brand has their own bootleg Chucks, Converse has decided to release a new version of the iconic sneaker later this year. The name Chucks are simply called the Chuck Taylor Cup (We think its because of the newly added cup sole, but hey...we could be wrong). Peep the pics below.
They might not be the original design or a far cry from the original Chucks but we still dig 'em. Whats your take?
If you are theblagg la familia then you are probably aware of the love we have for Chuck Taylor (especially cut-off Chucks with skate shoe laces. FIRE!). So this post might come as a shock because we are very "unsure" of the direction Converse is taking our dearly beloved Chuck. See for yourself.
We love the leather, but wasup with the velcro strap yo?? NOT BLAGGER!!
We love everything in black...Guess its true what they say huh "There's always an exception".
We will probably love the cut-off or low-top version but the high-top is a bit of a disappointment. Your Thoughts?
