All Hail Aloe Blacc

There were better pictures of him on the net but this one is so... charming - T.O.G

The Ordinary Girl is not convinced about this guy. But if Dude and HB are then who am I to argue? Maybe theblagg familia can shed some light. Here's what you need to know: His name is Aloe Blacc. He is a singer/rapper - think something along the lines of Mos Def, just not as good looking. He is on Stones Throw (bonus!) and he's got a Michael Jackson rendition out.

Here's what you need to feel: Aloe Blacc's (and The Grand Scheme's) Billie Jean, ladies and gentlemen.

Ooooh, also, the writer we used to adore Jozen Cummings wrote a piece on the kid for GQ.com a while ago. You can read it here. Seems Aloe Blacc is blowing up in all the RIGHT places. We can't wait for Treme to hit South African TV.

Oh No and iPad? Heck Yeah!

We promise we don't get a kick-back from Stones Throw! We're still slumming it on these blog streets.

But that's an entry for another day.

While moping over being a day late and a rand short of what's happening in South African sneaker culture, theblagg decided to take a detour and merge the present state of the music we love and the future of technology.

What did we end up stumbling across? This:

"That raw, raw stuff. That raw, nasty, gangrene, go jump off a bridge, toilet bowl music." Or at least the person who makes it: Oh No!!

Ta-daaaaaaaaaaaa! Ahem.

While Madlib (you know how we feel about him right here at theblagg) is known the world over as a legendary _________*, his little brother Oh No is well on his way to that status too.

In this video Oh No, who is also a producer/rapper does an ad for what's on every bloggers wishlist: a paying gig. No, seriously though, in this clip Oh No talks about the advantages of using the Korg iElectribe app on the iPad.

*Crickets and tumbleweed pause*

Yes, it's still an ad but Oh No is just so ridiculously likeable that you can't help but watch him recount his humble beginnings and talk that sound talk. Plus we're hoping whoever got the soccer shirts connekie has an iPad shipment coming in real soon so we wanna know how the darn thing works beforehand.

Oh and to paraphrase Oh No: Just watch out when theblagg has their own rocketships, we're going to be dropping bombs.

*Insert your own amazingly cool adjective here.

Parra x Madlib tee

Stones throw are at it again. After a series of collaborations with Stussy for J. Dilla tees and doccie, comes another tee collab. This time its between Madlib and the Dutch Illustrator Parra(Dude is a huge fan). Parra, who has collaborated with brands ranging from Nike to Vans, put his own spin on the LA Dodgers logo to create a new Madlib design. This is said to be a first of a series of Madlib tees to come. This tee is now available on Stone's Throw Here is the tee.

For those who are not familiar with the work of Parra, here is some of his other work.

R.I.P. J Dilla

Even four years after his passing, J Dilla (James Yancey) still tops the lists of your favourite SA Hip Hop producers' favourite producer. Stussy and Stones Throw Records have hooked up for Raph Rashid's classic pic of J Dilla on a limited-edition Stussy Tee. This will be released tomorrow (Feb. 13) in White and Black and it will be available at stonesthrow.com and Stussy locations.

They don't stop at that, they also created a documentary on the life of James and they are also holding "Dilla Day" events at their North American stores. Oh well... At least we have Music at last...I guess. Here is part one of the Documentary.
