FRWEDNESDAY MIXTAPE
Happy Hump Day! If you've been reading theblagg or following fratpack (@fratpackmusic) then you already know what frwednesday is all about. If not then do not pass go, do not collect 200 and get the heck off the internet. I'm just kidding. Come back, come back. Now, you all know the hip hop group called fratpack (one word, all lower case), right? For every Wednesday of the past couple of months, they would release a song for their fam. Called frwednesdays, the songs were mostly the two brothers rapping on beats that me far-outed. So it's only fitting that me and Mr Calibre drop a compilation of those joints and a few new ones on a Wednesday. Yep, TODAY. The frwednesday Mixtape is available for free download over HERE and in addition to features by the likes of BIG FKN GUN and Reason as well as far-outing my favourite Zaki Ibrahim song, the mixtape is packed full of surprises. The frwednesday mixtape is the final offering before fratpack's famlove EP is released in the final quarter of this year. Tell all your frwednes! Here's the tracklist:

theblaggTV: Reason and AKA performing "Benilyn"
Reason held his Audio 3D CD launch at Shikisha in Newtown and it was good times. He gave the audience a treat of him performing "Benilyn" with, Mr SAMA-Best-Male-Act himself, AKA. Here's the performance below captured by theblaggTV.

Mr 15 Stacks

Look who's taken a page out of the J. Cole school of songs? All teasing aside, Reason's newest joint that sees him, ahem, singing his chorus, is really dope. Produced by Ootz, 15 Grand is all Reason says he needs to feed his seed, get his cheese and get his dreams. Like Cole, Reason taps into the side of him that brings him down to the truimphs and trials of the ordinary joe's level and makes him relatable. In case you hadn't figured it out by now, Reason is also the newest signee to Tumi Molekane's Motif Records label. To prove the deal has been sealed, T From The V jumps on to the end of this joint over The Clipse's Popeyes (Popular Demand) instrumental. However, the real star of the show is Reason on 15 Grand. theblagg is really stoked about this joint. What do you think?

15 Emcees

"Kill you then vacation in Knysna"
Remember that line? Yeah, that was Black Lez making everyone scratch their heads on the 15 Emcees Special joint that's taken off Reason's WenzTheAlbumCuminOut? mixtape. Truth be told that was a gem and a half and I for one wish it woulda received the radio airplay that it deserves. Big up to Instro who produced it.
In case you couldn't keep up, in order of appearance, here are the 15 emcees: Naked Eye, Saint You Know, N'Veigh, Dismental, Arch Rival, Miss Nthabi, Mr Beef, Poltagyst, Black Lez, Mo Katalyst, Big Ben, X-Rate, Iamaze, Mothipa and Reason.

Qwazaar in Johannesburg

Kool Out Live brought Qwazaar ( of Typical Cats ) to Joburg this past Saturday and we had a quick chat with him after he ripped the stage. He dropped knowledge about how emcees can make it without radio, what the new Typical Cats album might sound like and what kicks he is into.
As if that wasn't enough, we also have an exclusive performance of Qwazaar, Reason, Flex Boogie and Mingus on a Battlekat beat. Peep below and tell us what you think.
Shout out to Akio from Kool Out Live.

Reason and DJ Hamma

How long must one be labelled an "up and coming artist"? Contrary to what the video information describes rapper Reason as, you, theblagg readers, know this cat has been ripping mics and stages alike for more than a minute.I guess in South Africa if you're not a regular on Vuzu you're not much.
Oh well.
Here is DJ Hamma and Reason's track, Still Got Love.

Status Updates and Such
Soooooooooooooooooooooo....

theblagg la familia member Reason, known to you Facebookers as Reason Lebaka, joined the This Is The Remix brigade and remixed AKeys' Unthinkable. You know, the Drake penned joint. Anyway, last night Reason jumped on this joint and took a completely different twist. He figured the status update space couldn't accommodate over 3 minutes worth of his thoughts and you already know 140 characters would not do. This is why the song is titled LOL Smiley Face (Status Update). Hey, we didn't come up with that title, don't shoot theblaggers.
So theblagg did what any self-respecting blog team would do, we're giving it to you to listen to. Don't call it a leak. Yeah, we're going to bear the brunt of uploading unreleased material that may or may not be cleared with the artist but hey, this is hip hop baby, we're finna take it to the tip top baby.
This is a much needed and most welcome return to the world of music from the guy who brought us the WenzTheAlbumCuminOut? Mixtape. And because we hate the chorus of this song too - we grilled Reason about it.
He tried to explain himself by saying, "It's for the [upcoming] album but it's a rough recording. Basically I rap on beats that exist, and then Instro reproduces it. The Alicia is just a guide. What I do want to do is get him to mix this one proper, then put it as Work In Progress track by Reason, then put out the original. I’m tyina get Tumi or some other Rapper to sing the LOL’s." Eh, still not buying it.
But this is not about us so listen to Status Update aka LOL Smiley Face (didn't Trey Songz already have a song titled this?) and leave your comments. Yeah, just like on Facebook.

Back Track

Back To The City came and went. You only need to log onto Facebook to find that there are mixed feelings about this Freedom Day festival. A lot of them. But theblagg don't judge so best believe there will be some video footage that just shows it like it is coming through in the very near future. However, we will say this while you wait for the videos; theblagg affiliates Instro and Reason (above) were thoroughly entertaining!
Good thing though, we FINALLY got to meet The Ordinary Girl's East African version of dream hampton. Yes, we are ecstatic.
So because this is our blog and we can post pictures of ourselves if we want to that's exactly what we're going to do. This is Dude getting his blagg on backstage. Much love to Hypress for posting these on FB.

Push

Clockwise: Reason, Instro, Bongi and Proverb
No, this isn't about Sapphire's critically acclaimed novel. It's better. It's about family business (cue Kanye's Family Business). Remember the producer/sometimes rapper who brought you Beautiful Hell on A Record? And 6Feet? And the NASA (Now And Still After) album? And that dude who dances like a white guy (on tik) at any party? Yeah, that brotha is Instro and he's about to drop some new classic-in-the-making material.
Instro is still working on his second album and while the yet-untitled work is near completion, he decided to unleash his first single, Push. This joint sees K1's own Reason ride the beat alongside Proverb and 5FM's Bongi Mbelu. Motivation minus the spending money madness. Give it a listen, download it and let us know what you think - especially you Menamoo.

Instro's album comes out soon, but nibble on Push in the meantime.

Reason

So Reason can’t braai meat for squat! But fortunately for him, this K1 Spitter (get familiar) only has to worry about the likes of rap beef. Not the brown and white spotted moo-ing kind. Now before haters get their pants all soiled at the thought, Reason has no bones to pick with anyone. Oh contraire, it seems his fans, la familia and groupies alike are the ones who have been asking more questions than 50Cent assisted by Nate Dogg. In a nutshell: When is the album dropping?
Dzi is mum and the industry is asking who’s your daddy? Ok that was much funnier in my head.
Reason’s answer is in the form of a tongue in cheek mixtape especially titled for our illiterate friends, Cool Kidz and rap fiends. The “WenzTheAlbumCuminOut? Mixtape” was unleashed onto these mean internet streets today and you can download it right here. Pretend you care what the boss thinks about your frequent internet usage. The second best thing about the mouthful of a mixtape is that nostalgia gets the best of one-time campus DJ, Uncle Bextizie, who channels his inner DJ on My Fake FM.
The best thing however is that the mixtape is DOPE!
Reason put together 13 tracks, most of which were part of his exclusive Friday give-aways, each introduced by the witty Uncle Bextizie. Murdarous! Over beats woven by the likes of “that nyi99a Instro” as Uncle Bextizie calls the NASA producer, Ootz, pH, Infa and even Kanye West, Reason goes bar to bar with everybody and their mommas.
Well almost.
Outrageous Records affiliate Nthabi – Miss Nthabi to you and me – as well as Cap City’s Anvils, the East Rand’s S.O.S, Cape Town’s Driemanskap and Ben Sharpa make vocal appearances. And don’t forget Mr Vaal Triangular Son, To Be Particular himself X-Rate amongst many others.
Now young Sizwe is obviously very near and dear to theblagg and if you dare speak ill of him we will find you, come to your house, eat your babies and “kill you then vacation in Knysna” (Wassup Black Lez). Ok so we won’t. We’re just blaggers after all. But if you have nothing constructive to say about the WenzTheAlbumCuminOut? Mixtape then do like Flabba said and shut the fcuk up!
This mixtape is definitely something to write home about. And theblaggers squandered their mortage loot on All Star cut-offs and jelly beans so we have no home. That’s why we write to you. So stop your bloodclot crying and blah blah blah fishpaste you know the rest. Remember to keep checking for the official album, it will surface in this millennium still. Or at least until he learns to braai a piece of steak well. Final word from Reason? “Imma die a legend from the shit I did before I cracked it.” Believe it.
