Icon Hip Hop

Icon seems to be the club to be at lately. Formerly known as a string of other clubs in the past, that building on 12 Fredman Drive in Sandton is now known as Icon and it has had quite a few artists host a gig or five there this year. The next gig in line is spearheaded by clothing label, Butan Wear and it takes place on Saturday - as in tomorrow. The first in a series of events, Home Run Hip Hop Volume 1 will have Proverb as the headliner. Other Butan affiliated artists, Slikour and Kwesta will also do their thing. Doors open at 9pm and R100 gets you in.

No Yellow Fever

I won't even beat around the bush. This year's South African Music Awards have had a pap response because well they've been pap. From the venue change (from Sun City to Montecasino) to the nominees party to the nominees list, we think people are no longer hyped about these annual awards. We don't care who will be walking the yellow carpet this weekend. And like most music lovers, we raised our eyebrows at the Best Rap Album category - but it's no secret that year after year, heads are never, ever satisfied with the nominees in this category. We don't judge though, we just tell you who got the nods.
