Beauty Shop Skinner

I'm obsessed with typography and this is a fitting one. Check out more HERE

I'm not sure if Riky Rick and Da L.E.S knew what they were starting when they put out their Barbershop ditty but rappers seem to connect with it. First it was Dirty Paraffin's Okmalumkoolkat who took his own spin on the jam, renaming it Siyagunda. But, the ladies wanted in too. Muptee and Nonku (referred to as Nonks in this song) - as well as some funny banter by Em Kay - churned out their own rendition of the song, aptly titled Beaty Shop. While nails, hair and other girlie things aren't rapped about at length, the ladies provide a skinner session about a fine guy who caught Muptee's eye but who couldn't even pay an auto-mo-bill. Then about a guy who should probably pick up a Dr N.A Ndos flyer and sort out his, er, small problems. Beauty Shop is light hearted and fun, what do you think of it?

A Cut Above The Rest

This dope picture of okmalumkoolkat was taken from 2Faced1

Dirty Paraffin is not out of the box. It sees the box, builds a bridge, gets over it, leaves it behind and then creates its own lane entirely. Who else is making music like Okmalumkoolkat and DJ Spizee? Anyway, just last week we showed you the video for Riky Rik and Da LES' Barbershop. Now Okmalumkoolkat and DJ Spizee's brother, Snitch have collaborated on a remix of the jam and called it Siyagunda - which is Zulu for we are cutting, and in this instance, cutting hair. For someone who is almost always wearing a hat, cap, hoodie or whatever on his head, that doesn't mean he doesn't have Barbershop tales. Or a soundcloud. Ha! So you have to deal with the reverbnation player to hear the jam. What do you think of it?

In The Grey Area

Michael Jackson sang that it don't matter if you're black or white. But these days, plenty cats have been taking to the black and white route when it comes to their music videos. Don't get me wrong, we love the ol' black and white around these blagging parts. Shoot, fratpack's video for Dream is black and white and all sorts of awesomery. So here are the other quality videos that are made this way that we think you should see if you haven't already.

Riky Rick's Gone

Yeah, we know we're late with this video but just because we're late doesn't make it less dope. This is Mzansi's own Riky Rick (whose picture was pinched from Flickr) and the song is called Gone. It was filmed in Amsterdam and is a dope visual to accompany some cool rhymes. What do you think?
