What's The 511
A while ago, we got an invite from the good folks at Shelflife to attend a low-key preview of The 511 Skateboarding Collection at the Baseline store in Cape Town. Just a little aside about theblagg's relationship with Baseline: Dude was in Cape Town a year ago and almost lost his mind because he finally found (and bought on the spot) the tan Janoskis over at Baseline store on Long Street so the store has a special spot in his heart. Ncaaaw.
Ok, what was I busy telling you again?
So yeah, for those who aren't aware, Nike SB and Levi's came together to collaborate on the 511 collection which is inspired by and geared towards lovers of skateboarding. The Levi's 511 skinny denim makes a comeback here and actually feels really light to the touch and features Nike's Dri-Fit moisture management system. Great for skaters but I reckon anyone could rock the slim-fit just because they don't feel like they wear you down. But I digress.
I'm not a fan of the trucker skateboarding denim jackets that are a part of the collection but if the Levi's x Nike Omar Salazar sneakers were a dude, they could totally get it. The Nike Dunk Low Pros round out the package and retail prices in America seem to be high as usual but when I asked the folks at Baseline about their prices they said they weren't sure because prices hadn't been set yet. This collection is a very limited release in South Africa so you might want to pay Baseline a quick visit. Don't forget your wallet.

A Hot Winter
South Africans don’t have to worry about cold weather for a couple of months. Unless they live in Cape Town where everyday, at least for an hour, can feel like winter. The Ordinary Girl is always cold. Like always. Meet me anytime, anywhere and I’ve got a cardigan or coat on. I can’t help it. But even I wouldn’t wear these Nike Air Baked sneakers. I know they are supposed to keep you warm and all but...really? You can find them in Motion, which is suede and fur on top or the cotton and crotcheted ones or all fur everything in the normal Mids. Sigh. What do you think blaggettes?

New Blood

The Ordinary Girl will be the first to admit: rugby is not my thing. I don't care for the sport not one bit. But, South Africa is a sport-crazy nation and they tell me the Springboks do tend to kick some butt. Add to that the fact that the Rugby World Cup is now on and it's no surprise that all over social networks of late has been talk of rugby. Nike ID joined the conversation.

To celebrate the start of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, these limited edition Hyperfuse Air Max 1s were created. They are inspired by England's kit and look good enough to almost make a sista want to watch some grown men hugging each other aggresively. Almost. Do you like them?

Word is when these babies dropped, a few were sent to the actual squad along with some exclusive Beats By Dre headphones. Looks like Karen Civil knows how to get a brand out there real proper like. Now if only we could get a pair sent our way...

Dude Is In Love

And it’s not with the Martian above. Although… Lil Wayne does seem to share a love with Dude. That’s right, Dude’s in love with the Nike Vintage Blazer. Highs. Suede. If I told you how many pairs he now owns you’d label him a glutton. So do that privately. For now, peep what’s keeping his heart and his feet warm:

Why Didn't Anyone Tell Me?

Cliff Huxtable's sweaters were the bombdiggity. Ask all the fashion-forward rapper kids, they know. Forget however living better now, Coogi sweater now, how about coogi dunks? Now. See? You didn't even have to ask me when.

Yeah, these SB Dunks are called The Cliff Huxtables and they were inspired by the Cliff and they come in various WOOL patterns. Wool, yo. The swoosh and mid-sole stay black but really, how cool are the colours? Bill Cosby was the man, girlfriend. I want these highs.

Can I Get These In A 6?
How dope are these Nike Gamma sneakers?A while ago Dude and I were at a sale at Gallery on 4th in Melville. I spotted these puuuuuuuuuuuurty purple Air Max's. I kept trying to convince myself not to buy them. The rent doesn't pay itself after all. But the thought of walking on air blew rent issues right outta my mind.
So I tried to check the sneakers out without anyone else noticing. But Dude and Mkay Frash were already on to my game. Or maybe Mkay just wanted to lock up after a long day. Anyway, I was cornered, I had no choice but to try the kicks on. But the 5's were screaming "T.O.G I don't fit you"! And it was maddd embarrassing. See I'm a size 6. Been the upside 9 for a while. But for a long time I thought I was the only girl who has a long time but isn't part of the WNBA.
But when the Max's and I locked eyes I knew I had to have them. Even if I had to take the godzilla size. So I did. And cats at taxi ranks stay looking at my feet like they're something to eat. I haven't felt enamored by a sneaker that I would actually go out and spend hard earned cash on in a long time. Part of that is because they are never available in Mzansi.
But that's since changed. Word is these Nike Gamma's (pictured)are now available at Sportscene's across the country. All together now: Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! These trainers come in an all white, black with a silver swoosh and my personal fave: the black on black colourway. This shoe is so dope it's got me counting down to pay day. It's got these elastic laces over the tongue so you never have to lace up. And the ribbed clip button fasteners at the top are well... the cherry on top.
Can I get an oohwee?

Can I get these in a 6, please?

Lyte as Air
This morning The Ordinary Girl's little brother - who is supposed to be paying attention in his high school classes, mind you - hits her up on Facebook. He wants me to remind him whose song Ruff Neck is. My first instinct is to scold him. Not for wasting his class time on social networking but for forgetting.
You see my brother and I watch music videos for hours on end and I quiz him on the origin of a hip hop sample, the sneakers worn by "alternative" musicians and fun facts about who shot who in gangsta rap. You know, the typical things one does with their little brother.
So I answer his facebook question and then wonder aloud: Why doesn't MC lyte have a collabo with a sneaker brand? The cotton pickers keep quiet, there's work to be done after all. So I go to the next best thing: google! And guess what I found? Nah, one of my favourite emcees of all time has NOT had a sneaker collab (that I know of) yet but she has customised her kicks.
blaggers and blaggettes, how cool are these Air Jordan 1 Alpha IDs?

The classic Jordan colourway is made even doper by the grey accents. And you know theblagg loves them some grey. Here she is again looking hella bossy as usual.

Am I the only person who thinks Lyte's lips look like Dude's twin's? Maybe they just use the same lipgloss.

Just Design It

A while ago the homey, Solo sent us an e-mail that read "25 Inspirational Designs For Nike" and theblagg has been meaning to share our favourites with you. A cat called Matthew Heidenreich who blogs for Web Design Blog compiled these and says: "While Nike has had its controversy’s in the past, you can’t help but appreciate some of the artwork that has been influenced by their brand."

theblagg appreciates. Good looking out Solo.

Yo Jury!

Dude and I went over to see the homie Aquarianox last night at the Gallery on 4th and they've got some pretty dope gear and kicks out right now. While it's no secret that on most days I am on the fence about some of the stuff sold at the Gallery, Dude marveled at quite a number of things.
What we all had different opinions on though is these neoprene Aqua Dunks. See, to me these joints feel like a laptop bag. Props to them though because they do look purty. Feminine yet purty - not like those Y-3 heels. They do have a mild case of MVV (Mooi Van Ver for those who don't know) but that said, I'm not sure if I'd buy them.

These hi-tops that also have a zip in the back so you don't have to unlace them everytime you rock them are supposedly inspired by the wetsuits that divers wear. Ye? Ok, well they are also available in black and grey.
What do you all think of them?
