Flexin/Mercy

The Ordinary Girl may be the only person on the planet suffering from Kanye West fatigue so sorry, you won't be reading about where to cop his new shoes here. What you can read about here, even though you've probably already seen this on the American blogs, is his video for Mercy. Or rather, G. O. O. D Music's catchy AF joint, Mercy. It looks very similar to Siya's visuals for Flexin (which was released well before Big Sean and 'em). I don't know if it's a case of imitation being the highest form of flattery. What I do know is that the well known artists will always get the props for what a lesser known creative pioneers or at least puts out into the world of their own accord. But don't pay attention to me, I'm just a girl who is tired of Mr Kardashian, after all.

If you're interested, here's Siya on Flexin:

And this is Mercy:

Watch The Clone

You ever heard of Cassius? No? The Ordinary Girl hadn't heard of the French house masters either until me of fratpack far-outed a remix of their song for a fratpack joint. The song is called I Love You So and it bangs. Why am I reminding you of this:

I Love you so by fratpack

Because of these guys:

I'm not going to address Watch The Throne as an album or concept. It's their song, also their own rendition of I Love You So that I take issue with. I am however, going to say that it makes me super proud to know someone who saw the genius of I Love You So before Mr Knowles and Big Sean's boss got their hands on it. And, simply put, fratpack did it better. What? Yes, I did, yes I did, somebody tell these people who the eff I is. Now, on that note, there are a few of fratpack's Not In The Mixtape, well, mixtapes left so let us know if you'd like a copy. *drops mic dramatically and walks off*

Game Time

Beyonce season is upon The Ordinary Girl. Again. Sigh. And it has come to my attention that some folks may need to see an optometrist because this is how I feel today:

Now go get my throne, 'cause I don't wannna stop
I just go in my zone and Imma make it hot
Til it's time to go
When it's time to go, where are you trying to go?
You'd better act like you can see me now

EXACTLY!

Oh and, ahem, Kanye West is in it...

Smokin' A

Amber Rose has not gone anywhere, sorry 'Ye. The Ordinary Girl's favourite twitter bug, Fabolous, has a new video out. It's called You Be Killin Em and it stars Amber Rose. In the video Amber plays an assasin who has many disguises - like Alicia Keys in Smokin Aces. ARose is in it so you know that means your back shots will come with liquor shots, right? It's fine, whatever. Do you guys like the video?

Oh, and we know Dude does not mess with Jordan Fusions but what's your take on Amber's sneaker game up top? She's wearing the Air Jordan Force Fusion VIII Playoffs. And yes, I am aware that what she's wearing in general is wack but let's not dwell on that, Amber's sitting pretty right about now. And yes, she is killin' most while at it.

We've Got The POWA

On Friday night Dude and I were watching SABC 1's Live. The music show has become something of a chore to watch for some of us who often work in this industry. And yes, that's even with Sizwe Dhlomo at the helm. So imagine our surprise and delight when we saw Tumi Molekane (of Tumi and the Volume) open the show?

He started off a cappella and the super talented group The Soil joined in on vocals and beatbox. Sounded dope. We're like wait, is this Kanye's Power? Nope. It was Tumi's clever take on the Ye joint. Dude stares at me as I reach for my drink. He says, 'did Tumi just say 'we take our seeds to school to get deflowered??'"

Well, no. Actually, according to his blog, Tumi said "we put our seeds into school they get deflowered." We immediately got that he was referring to the Jules High School rape travesty. So we listened more attentively. And wondered if anyone else was "getting" this. Seems not if Tumi's post-performance interview is anything to go by. T from the V told Sizwe he was "provoked" to write this song when he came back to South Africa from touring. So Sizwe filed that under "Don't Ask" and moved on to a question about Tumi and international audiences. Yeah, he hasn't been asked about that before.

Anyway, theblagg knows not everyone could grasp what Tumi the Jordanite (theblagg's new term for someone who is obsessed with Air Jordans) spat. So we asked the sista's from afriPOP! for the track. And here it is. The song is called POWA - we assume it's a nod to People Opposing Women Abuse - and it's an eye-opener. Think about it, "when Mandela dies, who gon' really care about us?"

Jacking For Jams

Not only has this r&b singer, Suai, jacked Kanye West's Power hook, homegirl even deconstructed the beat and played it live. On her website, Suai explains her infatuation wth the song:

"I loved Kanye West's "Power" when I heard it. Loved the remix even more. So, I wanted to get on! Sat down at my piano, re-played everything, and flipped it a little so that the lyrics applied to me and my situation (and maybe yours, too)."

Power is a really hot song. And theblagg has showed it plenty of love, but what do you guys think of Suai's version? Can she hang? Check it out:

Lloyd Banks Starting It Up!

With Hunger For More 2 dropping November 23rd, Lloyd Banks is creating a buzz on these mean internet streets by messing with Ye. First he was featured on Kanye's joint and, as if that wasn't enough of a suprise, now he just dropped his own joint called "Start it Up" featuring Kanye, Swizzy, Fabolous and Ryan Leslie. You think he'll get it popping like he did with "Beamer, Benz or Bentley"?

Is Mos that G.O.O.D?

Now we don't know how true this is, but judging from a XXL article titled "Monster's Inc." , it seems Mos Def has joined Kanye's imprint G.O.O.D Music. Will this see Mos enjoying some commercial just as Common did when jumped on board? Time will tell. This is what the article said verbatim:

“Just as Kanye returned to his roots to scoop up Common, he recently recruited his buddy Brooklyn rapper/singer/actor Mos Def into the GOOD Music fold. Long regarded as a formidable talent by underground devotees and mainstream fans alike, Mos appeared on “Two Words” (from Kanye’s 2005 The College Dropout) and “Drunk and Hot Girls” (from KW’s 2007 Graduation). Since his 1999 solo debut, Black on Both Sides, Mos has increasingly been pushed — whether by generational choices or self-exile — to the fringes of indie, alternative hip hop. Maybe it will take Kanye to reign him in.”

G.O.O.D Music definately in the building!!! But...With Kanye also signing Pusha T, Charlie Wilson and CyHi Da Prynce, could this be overloading the roster to the point where none of his artists can get the necessary attention they need? Hmmm... What do ya'll think?
