Been trying to get this book for a few months now. Last year, Female Sneaker Fiend founder, Lori Lobenstine decided to publish the awesome Girls Got Kicks photodocumentary book. It's not a coffee table book, this is the one you climb into bed with and develop the screwed-up face with each turn of the page. With photographs by Amanda Lopez, Lori - a legend in the game - rounded up some of the most passionate sisters whose kick game is unmatched. Some you may know - like Va$htie and Claw Money - and others you'll be meeting for the first time. Last year, I found out not one bookstore in the country has it in stock so I've been trying to buy it through my other connects. If you're not in South Africa and see it somewhere or find another way to get it, can you buy two? You know I'm good for it...

Let's Play Catch-Up

Picture borrowed from HERE
As you may or may not know, Dude was a part of the STR.CRD blog challenge a while back and while in it, he got to shoot some pretty dope material. Now the competition is over and I know that some of you may not have been able to attend the Joburg showcase or just may not have seen this footage. Shot on theblaggcam and edited by Dude, this is a quick gonzo-like interview he did with Ofentse’s friend in the head, Va$htie and after that video, a dope performance by Cape Town’s own, Ill Skillz.

Get To Know: King Va$htie
Yes, King Va$htie. Downtown's Sweetheart. Skateboard P's One Time Ol' Lady? Ok, we'll leave that last one to the gossip sites. But we do know that the director/party promoter/Jordan collaborator/almost-Dude's-Total-Package-Girl (phew!) will be one of the guests at this year's STR.CRD.
In the spirit of giving you an idea of who will be gracing the showcase this year, here is a video that will allow you to gain some insight into Va$htie if you don't already know her. Granted the questions are a bit basic but come to STR.CRD and ask her yourself if you're looking for something deeper. Props to the Cash and Caviar crew and Tone for shooting/editing it (and Vimeo for allowing us the access).

Like I said before, I don't know if the Get To Know thing will be a feature on theblagg but do stick around. Oh! We also like this Kendrick Lamar ADHD video that was directed by Va$htie, what do you think?

The Air-ess

If you've ever seen The Ordinary Girl then you know that when it comes to kicks, gender specifics mean absolutely nothing to her. I like those Jordan Retro 8s up top but I also mess with a variety of sneakers that don't have the WMNS tag on them. If they are phly then I will buy.

But, admittedly, it feels darn good to know that there is finally a sista on the Jordan Brand team of sports stars. Sure, Va$htie got to design some pretty 2s but if we're being honest, I'm not trying to get a credit card to order them online just so I can rock a colourway I don't even like. That's not shade, it's an opinion.

Anyway, Minnesota Lynx player, Maya Moore (above), is the first female basketball player to be endorsed by Jordan Brand and she joins the ranks of Dwayne Wade with this new appointment. All together now: wooohoooooo! There's no word yet about what kinds of Air goodies she'll be the face of but I know they damn sure won't be looking like this:

Va$htie’s Jordan II Video Promo “Ladies First”

We showed you the sneakers and now here is a video promo for Va$thie Kola's Air Jordan II collab. Va$thie had this to say about the video promo which she directed herself.
“For this PROMO, I wanted to pay homage to the tough young ladies out there who actually wear JORDANS…”
Jordan Brand had this to say about the collab
“We want to pay homage to the ladies who are rocking Jordan kicks on the daily, and we’ve teamed up with New York-based creative visionary Vashtie Kola to do just that. As a constant trendsetter and one of the best at mixing contrasting styles, we knew Vashtie would have a fresh take on the classic Air Jordan 2.
This limited-edition shoe brings a lavender and deep-purple colorway to deliver a more feminine style. The details didn’t go overlooked either, with hints of silver integrated into the laces to complement the metallic midsole. These shoes will be available exclusively in kids sizes on October 2nd, and stay tuned over the next few weeks for an inside look at the Holiday 2010 Girls Collection”

Enough talk, peep the video below

Air Va$htie?

Va$htie Kola is a music video director/Fashion Designer/Party Planner/Vintage Don etc. ( Yeah, she has got way too many slashes ). Now she has just added Jordan collaborator to her name.
Air Jordan decided to pay homage to females who rock Jays on the regular and who better to collab with than the self-proclaimed "Jordan 3 vilain". Va$htie, who has her own fashion line called Violette, hooked up the Air Jordan Retro II in a lavender and deep purple colour ( or what Dude would call violet ) to give it a feminine feel. Peep them and tell us what you think.
