AKeys Kicks

I may be the only girl I know who likes Alicia Keys. Now, I didn't say I like her new song but I am a fan of Mrs Beatz. Speaking of Swizzy, you all know that he's been doing his thing in terms of trying to make Reebok cool again to the kids, right? So, it comes as no surprise, really, that Egypt's mommy is now also throwing around the word "designer" next to her name. And what's she designed? Well, Reebok Classics has brought the Freestyle Hi out for her to work on. She's added a piano keys image (obviously) to the sides and back and her beloved New York City landscape to the top. She's also put her name on a couple of new designs for the Princess, the Dubble Bubble and the Nylon Slim. Cool collection. I'm a huge fan of hi tops - if you've seen me then you know but I don't know if these tickle my fancy. Do you like them?

Here's the ad to help promote the sneakers. Why does it have to feature this song? Sigh.

Lloyd Banks Starting It Up!

With Hunger For More 2 dropping November 23rd, Lloyd Banks is creating a buzz on these mean internet streets by messing with Ye. First he was featured on Kanye's joint and, as if that wasn't enough of a suprise, now he just dropped his own joint called "Start it Up" featuring Kanye, Swizzy, Fabolous and Ryan Leslie. You think he'll get it popping like he did with "Beamer, Benz or Bentley"?

Are we missing something???

You have probably noticed that The Ordinary Girl has got a bit of a soft spot for Mr. Keys aka Swizzy aka Mr "Showtime" aka Swizz Beatz, especially after seeing the pics that he took of his now better half Alicia Keys. What you don't know is that T.O.G. also likes that guy that paints the soles of his brands high heels red, thats Christian Louboutin for those don't know.
So when Swizzy and Loubou collaborate on a sneaker, you would think that T.O.G. would love it right?

WRONG!!!!!! In her words... Ahem "WACK"

We must be missing something because while cruising one my favourite sites I came across this from Puma called Puma Sky Hi+ “Repstile”

Does anyone dig any of these?? *Jay Z voice* What is it I'm missing?

STOP THE PARTY!

We didn't wanna rain on their parade but...
Apparently, Mashonda's ex and AKeys got their tribal dancing on in Durban when they were here for the World Cup. And, get this, Ms Cook (she's not married yet!) and their unborn child were given Zulu names too. Why?

According to the Bitchie:

Wearing tribal beads, Alicia and her baby were given Zulu names while standing under a fig tree known as the ‘healing tree’ by locals who believe it brings good fortune and health. ‘Two female priests who practice a mix of Christianity and tribal custom chose new names for her and the unborn child, as a mark of respect. The names were kept between them, but were chosen to reflect Alicia’s character.

‘Alicia had to do a special dance with drums banging in the background, and was embraced by abused children who she has helped. She was chosen for the ceremony as a thank-you, because she has done a lot to keep children’s lives afloat and for us to afford our support staff.

‘Her partner came too – he held her hand and helped her sit down when she needed rest.’

Abused children? Really? That's a novelty? Come on Keys! Only good thing about this? At least the very-uncomfortable-looking Swizz Beats was rocking some phly classic adidas.

Showtime indeed.

AKeys Makes Us Giddy

Ok, maybe it's just The Ordinary Girl who is obsessed over Superwoman and Swizzy's new baby mama, Alicia Keys. How dope was her 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Concert set? The best by far. Yes, even that last 5 seconds of her collab with Blk Jks on Brenda Fassie's Too Late For Mama that we got to peep. Thanks a lot SABC.

Before you start giving us the side-eye. We know Tumi was wack. We don't know why he got his collabo on with Shakira - who knew one was allowed to dry hump a monitor on stage? We don't know why he was dressed like a reject from Mashamplani. We don't know why he sounded more Pras than Wyclef and we don't know what's going to happen now that the Americans and Colombians have left. So many questions, not enough answers. Let's just hope a rap version of Waka Waka, featuring T From The V doesn't surface.

If we had that Karen Civil kinda money we'd spend our 9 - 5 time unpacking why we're not too thrilled about Tumi's stage antics. But we don't. So you'll have to settle for us being a day late and a Rand short if you want the full breakdown. In the meantime, smile at the mommy:

PS: Get at The Ordinary Girl if you know where (and more importantly, how much) the soon-to-be Mrs Beatz's top can be bought.

UPDATED TO SAY: WE'VE GOT VIDEO!!!! Giddynessoverload!

Embedding was disabled for the real high quality stuff. Sorry.

An Artist and an artist

This funny and eye-opening exchange between The Ordinary Girl and the Honourary Blagger and colour-filimi's very own was sparked by the Swizzy and Dame inside DD172 video (above).
We both took art in high school but HB became (and is becoming) an Artist while TOG does this. Sigh. Don't judge. Told you I am ordinary. Anyway, here is what went down:

HB: about that swiss beatz video...
TOG: Which one?
HB: with him and damon dash
TOG: Oh yeah
HB: interesting stuff...
TOG: I don't know what you're getting at hehehehehe, spit it out
HB: nah his choice of artists. i was somewhat surprised when he mentioned Ernie Barnes
TOG: Why?
HB: jean-micheal basquiat and jeff koons weren't really a surprise. jean-micheal dated madonna at some point
TOG: Are these people alive kanti? Tjo. Hehehehehehe
HB: ernie barnes died last year. i like his stuff very much (yena le Kadir Nelson are quite similar)
TOG: Show me your fave
HB: ya Ernie Barnes?
TOG: Yes.
HB: you can't be serious. i like everything he's done
TOG: Ok, your fave one at this very minute. I just want to get a sense of his style
HB:

HB: does it remind you of something?
TOG: Was Barnes black? His work looks like many other things I've seen before. But I'm not a connoisseur so... That Barne's piece looks like a scene from The Colour Purple
HB: yeah ernie barnes was black. i'll show what that painting reminds of just now in the meantime check this out first

HB: this is what it remember when i see that painting

TOG: Oh ok.
HB: you said that you might have seen some other stuff that looked looked like his before neh?
TOG: Yes.
HB:

HB: check that out
TOG: Oho o etsa ntwane ya Dali in that war piece. With the "melting' clocks and stuff?
HB: hey? let me check. i don't see it
TOG: I don't have a link, we studied it in school.
HB: sho i know that el savador Dali painting mara when did Kadir Nelson do something similar?
TOG: I'm talking about this kind of thing:

TOG: Nelson le Barnes ba etsa this sort of fluidity with their bodies. The form of a human body is not like that. Just as a clock isn't melting and winding etc
HB: yeah they've got interesting proportions going on there... exaggerated limbs to enhance the movement and energy of their pics. you get some people using that same technique often in manga/anime. like Samurai Champloo for example
TOG: Yeah
HB: i fucks with that style. it's hella hot

Mrs Buber would be both flattered and flabbergasted at the same time. Hm.
