New Mix
You know you heard her on the radio. True. But in case you haven't, theblagg has our girl, V@rdz's Party People mix for you. You can download it right HERE. It's really dope that DJ Kenzhero has decided to hand the platform over to the ladies this month. But I wish more radio DJs (regardless of gender) invited female hip hop DJs to do their thang no matter what month of the year it is. But until then... Viva Women's Month ke, Viva Le DJ!

Over/Play
I don't know what it's like wherever you are but the on-and-off rain in Cape Town has been super depressing. What better way to spend a day indoors than to check out nice mixes? DJ Pilzy Lee was over at DJ Kenzheros' Party People Radio show this past week and she played a pretty sweet mix she dubbed Over Play. Luckily for you, she's also put it up for free download HERE so feel free to go and get you some.

Father Creeper... Is My Name
Image via Studio83You guys remember that? Ja no, Simunye grooves indeed! Anyhoooooooo...
Our girl Mel over at Red Bull sent the word about a creepy crawley. Ok, it's not reaally a creepy crawley, I just wanted that word association in your head. Now that I have it... It's official, Kasi Crawl, an all-day event featuring 30 acts on 4 stages is happening on Vilakazi Street in Soweto on 6 November. What's more, you can find dope designers and a variety of food to choose from at the festival.
Here is what Mel told us:
"The street festival will have 4 stages each hosted by a local icon from the worlds of House, Hip Hop, Dancehall and Kwaito. The Party People stage will be presented by the ever-popular Hip Hop scholar and innovator, DJ Kenzhero; on the Music Light Love stage will be Black Coffee, an ex-Red Bull Music Academy participant and world record holding DJ (he played for 60 hours with one arm); the African Storm stage will be hosted by curators and reggae dancehall legends, Admiral and Jah Seed and finally, on the Keep Soweto Alive stage you’ll find House, Kwaito and the kicking sounds of ‘kasi’.
In addition to the music, Red Bull Kasi Crawl will host local fashion designers African Mutu Arts, Thesis Social Jam, Street Pop and Beading Dancer, who will have stalls at the festival. There will be a beer garden and a variety of food vendors such as Chisa Nyama and restaurants like Sakhumzi and The Shak."
Be there from 11am. Entrance is R20.

the Ladies Man
We straight up jacked this picture from MoFunk cuz we think it's phly so visit their site and show some loveA year ago DJ Kenzhero passed The Ordinary Girl some mixtape featuring some really dope female rappers and singers. He called it DJ Kenzhero Presents My Favourite Ladies Mix Vol 2. Odd, I thought, usually volume two follows a volume one. But not with Kenzhero.
The Party People pioneer handed me a CD (that is yet to be released, sorry folks)of his favourite songs as chosen and mixed by him. Fast forward to today and he decides to let us all in on DJ Kenzhero Presents My Favourite Ladies Mix Vol 1. Yes, he's deciding to do things the right way around now.
This new mix features my favourite Estelle joint "Life To Me" as well as songs by the likes of Chrisette Michele, Georgia Anne Muldrow as well as a song by Fifi featuring Bahamadia. Can you say diverse?
In between telling me what a headache he has, DJ Kenzhero had this to say about his new mix: "I'm inevitably in love with female voices, I can't explain it .... I don't know why. Volume 1 is comprised of what I'm listening to at the moment but it made me go look for more songs as soon as I realized there are so many out there. I'ts all there you just need to open your eyes. The cornerstone for this is to put out unknown female artists who drop albums that never get heard especially soul, neo-soul and hip hop."
And on why he is doing what he does Kenzhero said: "I did volume 1 about a year and a half ago, if not longer. So I'm just giving it out for free and volume 2 is still going to come out. I'm mixing volume 3 soon and I've got the track list already compiled for volume 4. Volume 5 is slowly filling up track list wise too. I'm working towards something here ... the trick is to to them in advance. I'm working towards something for 2012 or late 2011 if I'm lucky. It's still an idea I cant share yet."
You can download the mix for FREE on Mirror Creator
