I ART JOBURG Exhibition

We've already told you who Martha Cooper is, right? Well, as you might know, Ms Cooper is in South Africa to document the I ART JOBURG project that sees international and local graffiti and fine artists showcase their talent on murals in downtown Jozi. Martha Cooper documented the month-long work of Falko, ROA, Steve ESPO Powers, Remed as well as Cameron Platter and you can check it all out at the exhibition that will take place at the adidas Originals AREA3 spot on Kruger Street in Johannesburg from Friday. Courtesy of theblagg la familia, Sara Chitambo, here are a few images of the street art documentarian who conducted a talk at this spot on Saturday at STR.CRD:

theblagg bonus: Here's another thing you might or might not know. Philip Botha was this year's featured graffiti artist at STR.CRD and over 10 hours he made a big ass wall come to life. Can you see that this man had to be lifted up in crane thingamajiggy in order to reach the high end of the wall? Peep the story on his own blog HERE.

Get On The Bus

When The Ordinary Girl heard about adidas' Get On The Bus campaign, the first thing she thought about was a young Hill Harper. Yum. The second and third things were how well Mr Harper's aged and if Michael Ealy is better looking, respectively. And then I read the press release. To cut a long story short: adidas wants you to get on their bus and pose for pictures. We could be wrong but isn't this Maria of The Mothership on that screen in this picture?

Anyway, this campaign is a vehicle - see what I did there? - to bring awareness to the adidas Originals kicks and clothes and will travel all over the country to tell one and all about it.And no, Hill Harper and Michael Ealy are not on this bus. I checked.

EXCLUSIVE theblagg Interview with DJ Neil Armstrong

We know you've been waiting for it. Well, here it is, just what you ordered. Earlier this month, adidas Global Music Ambassador, DJ Neil Armstrong chopped it up exclusively with theblagg when he was in Jozi for the adidas Originals party that was held at the Alexander Theatre in town.

In Part One the jetsetter talks to us about his ambassadorship, his experiences as Jay-Z's Tour DJ and his phly kicks. Remember Dude and The Ordinary Girl argued about whether Neil, the ahem, adidas guy mind you, was wearing Air Yeezy's or something else in a recent video we jacked from youtube? You can find it here if you need to jog your memory. Yeah, well he sets someone straight on that. Brought the proof too.

Oh and don't miss the sweet tour days anecdote that Neil shares with us. Who knew Mr Knowles was actually a human being. Peep the video for yourself:

For more DJ Neil Armstrong, here is part 2 of the interview.

adidas Originals Does Good

We recently came across a back copy of a Vogue Mag (November 2008) and found this article on Sam Mendes' film adaptation of Richard Yates' Revolutionary Road. You know, the movie starring Kate Winslet and Leo di Caprio sans the sinking ship.

Anyway, there's a Revolutionary Road stan who writes this article about how the book is her "life litmus test" for whether she'll get along with someone or not. She even cites how Madonna uses the reactions people have to her original Frida Kahlo painting of My Birth to assess if they will bode well with her. Stick with me, I promise this has something to do with the title of the post.

The Ordinary Girl has something similar to this litmus test. For me it's my favourite series, Girlfriends. Usually people who come to my house, yes, all two of them are indifferent about the lives of Joan, Lynne, Toni and Maya (and now Monica Charles-Brookes, don't you just love saying that name?). But mostly, people like the series up until they watch season 1 for the 800th time.

It's no secret that Joan Clayton (the incomparable Tracee Ellis Ross) has a mean shoe game and coat dresses to make you want to pass the bar too. But what's pleasantly surprising is JClay's love for sweats. At some of the most pivotal points of the plot you can find Joan in a Neighbourhood something-or-other. She especially looks amazing in that green Neighbourhood sweater.

It's a pity google wouldn't play along and I couldn't find pics of her in Neighbourhood - but you can always come to my house and see it for yourself. Or you can coo at this cute pic of her and 'Ye taken (I presume) at the same place that the Lupe featuring Tracee's Magnificent Ass took their shot.

Anyway, because of my love for the series, Dude's insistence on being right about everything and my desire to live vicariously through Joan I fell head over heels for Neighbourhood. So... and this is where the post title comes in... imagine my sheer delight when Andrew McDade, the Brand Manager of adidas Originals tells Dude and I that they've just collaborated with Neighbourhood?

Backtrack: Last Saturday theblagg met up with supercoolcat DJ Neil Armstrong (remember we told you he was coming?) at the adidas Originals party. Footage of that coming soon. Promise. Then during the night we chatted up Andrew who told us some exclusive info about the new ranges that are coming to a store near you. My ramblings don't do him justice so just wait for the video.

Andrew McDade has one of the coolest jobs on earth. Before we could even shake hands I gasped and said "I loooooove your jacket!" I know Dude was rolling his inner eye at my weirdness but whatever. McDade told us said jacket is a new Harris Tweed military jacket that is one of the gems coming out of the adidas Originals x Luker by Neighbourhood collabo. Yours for R6000. I know, I did a double-take too. But look at it, it's so... perfect.

I thought to myself, Andrew likes Neighbourhood? That's a good sign, now lemme see if he'll come over for a Sunday Girlfriends Marathon...

From DJ To GS

You can't hate. DJ Neil Armstrong has been living the life for a while right now. Best thing about his though? He's not flashy with it.

In case you're not familiar, Neil is the DJ who backed Jigga on the Blueprint 3 Tours and he brought out his own remix version of the album too. It seems that three stripes insignia now synonymous with BP3 means a hell of a lot more to Neil than meets the eye.

He is, after all, one of the adidas - the three stripes we adore - Global Spokesperson.

Word on these internet streets (ok, ok, Chris Nkosi told us) is headed our way for a set or two next month. theblagg is madd thrilled about that. But as we wait, why don't you check out some footage of his recent New Zealand trip, where he did some spokespersoning.

Oh and, are those Air Yeezy's he's walking the plank in?

Laduuuuuuuuuuuumadness?

Ok so it's been a minute since we gave you some sneaker love. Askies ne banayse! The Ordinary Girl remembers it like it was yesterday. Well, yesteryear to be exact. Dude and the fam lunched at the then newly revamped Melrose Arch in Jozi. Dude and Young Calibre were super stoked about the adidas Originals store that has been opened there. You'd swear it was made of Mr Sweet's Jelly Beans.

Anyway, the store was highly disappointing in its range and its pricelist. But the latter was to be expected, it is *pinches nose* Melrose Arch after all! Fast forward a couple of months and Dude happens upon a pair of blue and mustard adidas Gazelles. He's been in love with them since. To fully understand what I mean I have to tell you that the 6.0s seem to have been retired. Yeah. Meditate on that.

Dude loves sneakers, it's true. But I'm pretty sure he won't be camping out like a rabid hypebeast to buy any one of the new adidas Originals Gazelle 2 Laduma Pack sneakers. Now I'm not dissing the shoes, allow me to channel Common on this one: if I don't like them I don't like them, that doesn't mean that I'm hating.

The Pack was designed with the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup in mind. With special emphasis on the fact that this is the first Cup ever to be held on African soil. So what did adidas Originals go and do? Hook up patterns that are "African" (read colourful and busy) in their principal design, add a tribal looking icon on the tongue and couple that with an African football phrase just to round things off. Yep. Above one stripe is the word "Laduma" (meaning "Goal") in blood red.

I guess the suede is the only redeeming factor. I don't know if they are available in South Africa yet - don't ask me. But with the chokehold that FIFA has on everything else that has to do with our soccer, it's highly unlikely that you will get them onto your feet before someone is headbutted on the field.

Sneaker Obsession (where these pictures are borrowed from) seems to co-sign on these. Do you guys like them?

Adidas mara why?

Now anybody who know Dude knows that I am a Trefoil cat by heart(even though I got more pairs of Nike's than adidas...but whose counting?), and if you know The Ordinary Girl then you probably seen her sporting Staten Island Superstars which are blazing hot!! So it brings a smile to us when we see adidas dropping hot collaborations like the adidas Originals x Star Wars Death Star Application (below)

Our smiles as delicious as Maynards fruity jelly beans (that plug deserves an endorsement deal or at least a Christmas gift pack MAYNARDS!!!), were very short lived because we came across something...not so dope. WHY MARA ADIDAS WHY??? WHAT KIND OF FUCKERY IS THIS?!?! Are we being punk'd?

Ashton? You can come out now. Jokes over...Okay okay okay. Leon Schuster! Waars die kameras?
