For The Spitters

First they brought you Sebenza and gave everyone with DStv a chance to feel cool with the catchphrase on the tip of their tongues. Now, Okmalumkoolkat (of Dirty Paraffin) and LV bring you Spitting Cobra. Both joints are taken from LV's Sebenza album which is supposed to be released in September. The Spitting Cobra video was shot by Chris Saunders and Malcolm Chen. Let us know what you think.

Girls Wanna Boogie

Sorry Cyndi Lauper, according to the brothers from BIG FKN GUN, the Girls Wanna Boogie. We know, we know, you're all waiting for the Pop Models EP and we're assured it's on its way. Until then, you get this theblagg EXCLUSIVE joint. On the EP, BFG feature Spoek Mathambo and Okmalumkoolkat on a track called Space. So BFG frontman, Solomon The Future, took lyrics from Space and BFG's Soul Faktor cooked them up on this beat so what you have in your ears right now is an alternate version, a snippet if you will, to hold you over until the EP drops. In other news, did you guys peep the BFG mention in an issue of SPIN Magazine a few months back? Pity the international mag that used to be dope didn't bother to spell their name correctly. What do you think of Girls Wanna Boogie, though?

Sebenza

We spotted Okmalumkoolkat and LV's Sebenza joint over at Dazed Digital and that's where you should go to get insight on the video, straight from the horses' mouths. If you're stealing bandwidth from work then you can quickly peep the video here:

OKMKKHK

No, that title is not some code acronymn for a racist sect that wears pointy hats. It's actually Dirty Paraffin's OKMalumKoolkat's Kool Hunting Klub. Mouthful, right? DP has always had a unique way of expressing themselves through their clothes so it comes as no surprise that one of their endeavours would be clothing. Also known as DJ PartyTime, this half of DP has a pop-up space at the DOPEstore on 30 Loveday Street in Johannesburg. But it's there for a limited period so make sure you make your way down there. The jacket worn above is actually one of the pieces that you can find in the space. As seen below, there is plenty more for you to feat your eyes on. All pictures lifted off Malume's blog.

Beauty Shop Skinner

I'm obsessed with typography and this is a fitting one. Check out more HERE

I'm not sure if Riky Rick and Da L.E.S knew what they were starting when they put out their Barbershop ditty but rappers seem to connect with it. First it was Dirty Paraffin's Okmalumkoolkat who took his own spin on the jam, renaming it Siyagunda. But, the ladies wanted in too. Muptee and Nonku (referred to as Nonks in this song) - as well as some funny banter by Em Kay - churned out their own rendition of the song, aptly titled Beaty Shop. While nails, hair and other girlie things aren't rapped about at length, the ladies provide a skinner session about a fine guy who caught Muptee's eye but who couldn't even pay an auto-mo-bill. Then about a guy who should probably pick up a Dr N.A Ndos flyer and sort out his, er, small problems. Beauty Shop is light hearted and fun, what do you think of it?

A Cut Above The Rest

This dope picture of okmalumkoolkat was taken from 2Faced1

Dirty Paraffin is not out of the box. It sees the box, builds a bridge, gets over it, leaves it behind and then creates its own lane entirely. Who else is making music like Okmalumkoolkat and DJ Spizee? Anyway, just last week we showed you the video for Riky Rik and Da LES' Barbershop. Now Okmalumkoolkat and DJ Spizee's brother, Snitch have collaborated on a remix of the jam and called it Siyagunda - which is Zulu for we are cutting, and in this instance, cutting hair. For someone who is almost always wearing a hat, cap, hoodie or whatever on his head, that doesn't mean he doesn't have Barbershop tales. Or a soundcloud. Ha! So you have to deal with the reverbnation player to hear the jam. What do you think of it?
