Dear Mr Bacardi Live... Kinda

Our favourite skirt-wearing rapper does it again! How can you not be impressed by Canada's own Eternia? I really should say hip hop's own but... bleh! With her and producer Moss finally getting a deal and aptly titling their project, At Last, she's been doing some pretty darn cool things. Like this for example:

I wanna be a rapper too! Ok, back to reality. This is a video of Eternia performing her funny ditty, Dear Mr Bacardi (from At last), on a corner in Queens. Cool, huh?

[Insert Your Own Corny Girl Power Line Here]

Producer BK (not to be confused with Beats Against The Beast's Battlekat) dropped this all-girl joint into the inbox a while ago and while it has received some YFM airplay, some people have been sleeping on it. Called Pissin The Boiz Off and featuring Phoenix (you might have peeped the skill in the SA leg of Emcee Africa), Supa, theblagg la familia Nthabi and Qba, this BK-produced song is going to appear on the beatmaker's 100% female mixtape.

theblagg spoke to Miss Nthabi - whose album, Welcome To Me, is "Due: When Rage decides to drop it" about what it was like to be a part of this song:

No, theblagg doesn't know why MXO (who is featured on Welcome...) is posing. Like that.

Nthabi: It’s not everyday that I get to vibe with women in studio (especially women who rap), so it was interesting to be in that space and have everyone add their own flavor to the track. It was evident the minute you walked into the studio that everyone there was not only in that space as an artist, but as a real life woman pushing their hustle. I found it quite overwhelming, especially ‘coz there we are recording and on the other side of the glass there’s someone’s kids playing and watching their mom do her thing. It kind of shows how Hip Hop, and music in general, is a reflection of our life.

They Say Sex Is A Weapon...

Women who are a part of pop culture in America have been significantly more sexified than their male counterparts with regard to their images for aeons. And while some get it right, many miss the mark. By a great margin. But it never lasts. In their prime, some of these women are considered sex kittens and use this as a weapon to stick up one track minded men with money in their wallets. However, one woman has not only aged gracefully, she has managed to make her nudity akin to revered art.

And it's not Lil Kim. theblagg recently found out that the reason Lil Kim wanted to go under the knife was because it would mean she gets to "have more fun" at her photoshoots. So the Louis stamps weren't exactly circus and candy floss to a kid huh?

And this clown steez is not working either!

It's not Foxy Brown either.

Long before Naomi was abusing the help, Foxy was the dark skinned girl who had the boys swooning. Of course she soon took to knocking out manicurists and she never quite got over Jay-Z and downhill went the career.

Why Foxy? Why?

Yep. The real Foxy Brown, Coffy, Pamela-with-the-Real-Boobies or whatever you choose to call her is the woman who has managed to take it all in her stride. She (or rather the masterminds behind Blaxploitation) used sex as a weapon and shot everyone down with the way she has aged well.

Lil Kim, Foxy Brown and anyone else who is not smart about their image needs to take notes. No shade. But an old Pam Grier makes the young pop starlets wanna pull out their yakis.
